1 out of 5 stars Not quite what it seems - for some of us!   January 9, 2008
R. A. Newton (Devon, UK)
Plugged the iMic in between my turntable and XP computer via a spare USB port and set the iMic switch to "Mic" to engage the units built-in pre-amp. With my own audio recording program (Roxio Sound Editor)it proved impossible to adjust recording volume down enough to avoid distortion. This also proved the case using the recommended Audacity recording software. The only item in the iMic package that proved worth having was the RCA to mini-jack connecting cable - now used between the turntable and the "Line-in" socket of my computer's sound card where recording levels are just fine.
Concerning delivery it appeared that the Marketplace supplier easylaptopshop went on un-announced holiday for the Xmas to New Year period causing an unwelcome delay in getting the unit to me by post.

5 out of 5 stars Good kit - good supplier   January 8, 2008
Mr. Andrew Baldwin (Wokingham, UK)
I bought this as the laptop I use only has a mono mic. input.

It performed "straight out of the box" with my Linux installation - no fiddling with drivers or re-booting - "it just works!"

The supplier, Discount Discs, also gave excellent service - the iMic arrived on the day BEFORE the due dispatch date. Confirmation and information e-mails were helpful. It's a real shame that other companies [a certain broadband supplier for example] don't provide such efficient, friendly and cost effective service!

I'm using the iMic with a line into the microphone port an controlling the volume from my stereo - with minimal clean up necessary for tapes and a little more for vinyl, I'm getting to hear some of my old collection more conveniently on my MP3 player -- nostalgia without the hassle - brilliant!

5 out of 5 stars Exellent item - provides full stereo input in Linux   December 8, 2007
Mr. C. A. Clarkson (Pembrokeshire UK)
I bought this item to make recordings with my Sony ECM-DS70P stereo microphone in Linux.

It's very light, very compact and is recognized automatically by the latest version of ALSA (1.015) running on PClinuxOS. Gives excellent stereo input into kwave (my recording software of choice) even at half volume on the input level.

Very impressed,

Sasha

5 out of 5 stars Very compact   November 21, 2007

This isn't the best USB soundcard available but it is certainly one of the smallest. I found it to be very reliable, if perhaps a little lacking in functionality. It does a good job, just don't expect too much of it.

2 out of 5 stars No use for Vista   October 23, 2007

This item will not provide 2 channel (stereo) input with Windows Vista. It provides satisfactory 2 channel output, but any attempt to select 2 channel input in Control Panel results in an error message while trying to capture audio using Audacity.

Griffin's website says it's not compatible with Vista, I'm surprised Amazon haven't made that point clear.
